WHAT IS TERRACOTTA
Terracotta is typically brownish red in colour but there are variations that extend to beige/green and grey/black. Terracotta is a fired clay (can be baked in the sun or fired in a kiln).
Terracotta has been used for centuries in the building and construction industry for decorative purposes, flooring and roof tiles.
Terracotta is a ceramic material and because clay is the prime ingredient, the look and colours can vary considerably and this surface is semi permeable which means it allows fluids or gasses to pass through it.
Terracotta consists of earthenware clay which is 25 percent ball clay, 28 percent kaolin, 32 percent quartz, and 15 percent feldspar. It is the softest type of ceramic, being fired at the lowest temperatures.
Terracotta is porous (absorbs water) and easily scratched.
