WHAT IS BASALT
Also known as Basalt is generally a dense, darker, fine -grained volcanic rock chiefly composed of plagioclase, pyroxene, and olivine. It is generally grey or black but can rapidly weather to a brown or rusty red due to the oxidation of its iron rich minerals into rust. Basalt has a wonderful natural beauty and the texture of the surface is generally left pitted or in it natural porous state. Basalt is used for floor and wall tiles.
More densely created basalt also look great when polished to create a commercial feel and look to kitchen bench tops or counter tops.
Great as fireplace surrounds or wall panels, basalt can be left rough looking as per its natural state or it can be honed and also highly polished.
Basalt can also be crushed and rebounded to create interior and exterior furniture, ornaments, sculptures and such.
